HAPPY NEW YEAR - FREE JANUARY CALENDAR PRINTABLE

FIRSTS AND LAST OF 2015

Happy New Year!  I can't believe it's already 2016.  This past year has been such a roller coaster, full of many firsts - and lasts - for me.

Perhaps my proudest accomplishment thus far, I took the California Bar Exam for the last time ever--because I finally passed it.   Taking the bar was by far the hardest thing I've ever done and there were definitely times I questioned whether it was actually going to happen.  Since passing, I've been reminded why I wanted to practice law to begin with.  I've been practicing juvenile law, working for an attorney on the dependency panel.

TEAM PLAYER - THE PAINTED LADIES

This year past year I also started this blog.   I had originally wanted a place to share what I've learned with other makers/creatives/artists about being an artist and running my own business.  I didn't anticipate however, how much I would learn along the way.

One of my favorite parts of blogging has become doing my interviews for Fierce Female of the month.  I have had the opportunity to meet and connect with other artists in other states and in other countries.  Starting your own business, especially as an artist/maker, can be overwhelming.  When I started, I felt like I didn't have anyone to talk to about it or who would understand my daily business struggles.  I've since realized that these other artists, although we have different styles, different stories and live in different places, have had similar experiences and it is nice to now have a group of boss lady besties that I can turn to, to vent to, for advice or even for inspiration.  Instead of feeling like I'm fending for myself, competing against other artists, I now feel like I'm part of a team.  We all have different strengths and weaknesses and we all have the opportunity to grow and learn from one another.  We are stronger working together, collaborating, exchanging ideas and information, than we would be on our own.

LIVE, SELL YOUR ART AND MAKE A LIVING SELLING YOUR ART

This past year was also the first time I was able to pay for rent fully with the money I made from selling my art.  I honestly hadn't even considered that as a possibility previously.  Growing up, I was told what I'm sure many other artists were told, you can't make a living selling your art.  I hustled my butt off this year and am proof that you can live, sell your art and make a living selling your art.  Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post about what steps I took last year to sell my art without being a sell out.
